Ten Ways to Plan Your Trail

One of the best things about Alabama Arts Trail (AAT) is that you can easily put together - “create” a tour to match the interests of you and your companions. Here are 10 ideas to help you create a great Arts Trail experience.

  1. Pick A Location by Area: Let Alabama Arts Trail inspire you to get out and explore places in Alabama that you have always wanted to visit. Check the guide for studios, art venues and arts organizations in that area and explore! The map will help you discover art you haven’t experienced before by getting off your beaten path.
  2. Visit An Artist: Choose a favorite or new artist’s studio as your destination and combine studio visits with stops to museums, arts facilities, and galleries nearby, and have dinner at one of our sponsoring restaurants.
  3. Discover a New Medium: Are you an aspiring artist? Sort by medium and visit members of the trail that work in that medium, and talk to them about it. Sign up for their workshops and events.
  4. Choose by Density: Check the map for a high-density cluster of studios and organizations, and see as many as you can.
  5. Keep It Local: Discover and visit artists in your very own area. Seeing their workplace, watching them work, and talking with them will give you new insight and appreciation for their work.
  1. Art Weekend Getaway: Plan a weekend to visit several artists, museums and galleries that interest you, and stay in one of our sponsoring lodging options. Explore local dining experiences and events.
  2. Blind Draw: Close your eyes, pick a point on the map and go! Be Adventurous! Then use the options nearby to fill your day or weekend full of art and art related events.
  3. Enhance Your Vacation With Art: If you’re visiting a place in Alabama, add art to your experience by visiting participating artists and organizations.
  4. Discover the New: Visit artists who are completely new to you but whose work sounds intriguing. Explore mediums and techniques you know nothing about. Visit galleries and museums featuring art with which you are unfamiliar.
  5. Collector’s Tour: Filter the map by your favorite medium, and add to your collection by visiting with art that fits your preference.
